Violette Lovecat x Beckaro

Passion and talent are the name of Violette Lovecat’s game as a tattoo artist. Drawing on multiple different sources of inspiration, her unique designs and creative expertise shine through with each fresh tattoo.

The ultra-sensitive Violette leads us into a world that reflects her own essence, a poetic parallel universe where drawings emerge as an invitation to travel and dream. Plants and flowers unfurl elegantly around cats, and geometric shapes serve as beautiful symbols in an opulent dream-like atmosphere.

With both sharing the same taste for travel as inspiration, Beckaro and Violette Lovecat designed a capsule collection
for the Spring/Summer 2020 season.

We interviewed the artist for a full-on immersion in her creative process and mindset.

How did your passion for tattoos start?

I had always loved drawing on bodies. As a young girl, I would draw on my friends. As I grew older, I began naturally gravitating towards tattoos when I saw my friend getting down to business. It immediately seemed like the natural next step for me, and it became my trade.

What is your biggest source of inspiration?

I love jungle influences, ancient civilisations, all things floral. Douanier-Rousseau is my go-to
reference for dense plant designs. The animal kingdom is a recurring theme in my illustrations, too, and especially cats. I love what their power and grace embody. I like cosmic elements, like the moon, constellations, the planets. I find them poetic, they help me dream, there’s something magical and spiritual about them. And finally, I like everything that’s alive: Plants and animals inspire me deeply, as do esoteric themes and anything to do with the cosmos. I like translating them through drawings.

You worked with kids’ fashion brand Beckaro on a capsule collec-tion for teenagers.
How did you find the experience?

The thing I loved most about collaborating with Beckaro was the opportunity to create for a different target audience: teenagers. Through the process, I needed to find a way of speaking to them, of touching them, by turning something essentially adult into something more accessible.

How would you describe the collection?

This capsule collection is themed around Japan, which was a real source of inspiration for me. Ever since I first started to draw, I’ve been hugely inspired by Japanese culture. Kitsunés (foxes) for example, which is the underlying theme for the girls’ collection, is very representative of my aesthetic.

Do you have a favourite
piece?

The T-shirt featuring a fox’s head surrounded by flowers: the copper thread creates thisbeautiful shimmery effect, with the colours shifting in the light. This piece shows off the illustration beautifully subtly, for a very understated effect.

Are you open to the idea of new collaborations?

Always! It’s a pleasure to work with different brands and experiment with drawings in other forms and mediums.
